We are looking for community volunteers and students (including high school students) who are interested in training and obtaining IRS certification as volunteer income tax return preparers. Volunteer tax return preparers will assist Hawaii's low-to-moderate income workers prepare their tax returns. Volunteers are required to train and to pass an online certification test. Training and training materials are provided free of charge. There is also the option of training online.
Volunteers are also needed to serve as greeters. Greeters are required to make sure that all clients complete the mandatory Intake form and Survey and to check taxpayers' IDs and social security cards to verify their identities. Knowledge of another language-particularly Cantonese and Mandarin-is especially helpful.
Our tax preparation sites are located in various areas of the State. These sites set their own schedule with regard to tax preparation. We work to accommodate volunteers' personal schedule. Therefore, if the site is open daily but a volunteer can only work one day a week, that's fine with us. All we ask is that volunteers show up when they say they will because sites will schedule appointments based on the number of volunteers available.
