Big Island/Puna/Hilo: Graduation Coordinator/Decoration Team: Do you love to decorate? Plan parties?
Project Hawai’i, Inc. is a volunteer staffed nonprofit designed to help homeless children. Our summer educational programs are open to homeless and poverty stricken children from 3 years old.
At the end of the 27 day program, we host a graduation for our keiki. Each child receives a special certificate along with their backpacks and new outfits to start school. (we hope to collect enough lei to present the graduates (about 48). If not, perhaps we can have the graduates use the lei for the volunteer educational staff.
This year will be our first year since covid we have been able to host a full celebration with sit down lunch lu'au, complete with our teens who will present a hula, etc.
We are so excited to continue this honor for our keiki.
In order for this to be complete, we need a small team of volunteers to assist with the coordination and decorating of our pavilion\stage area.
Since we do not have a budget and believe in recycling to save our islands ecosystem, we are seeking a volunteer team who will assist with collecting items we can use from the community. Graduation is just ending for so many Seniors and they all have wonderful decorations, extra lei, backdrops, etc that can be recycled to meet our party needs. (we typically post on Buy Nothing Groups, or other Facebook groups to get the community involved). This could also be a fun project for a youth group or other who need a service project.
We are hosting our event at the Wailoa State Park which will have beautifully flowers, leaves, etc we can also use for the staging area.
The volunteers we seek are self starters, creative and can take charge of their duties. While we will be on site at the event, we would love someone to be dedicated to the decoration area.
Volunteers can set their own start time to finish by the start of graduation. We will start at 11a.m., host our lu'au luncheon (which you are included), and stay for the presentation.
