About

Aloha,

Project Hawai'i, Inc., is a publicly supported nonprofit run 100% by volunteers to enhance the lives of homeless keiki.
This year we are gearing up for our 14th annual holiday party for children living in extreme poverty and homeless situations on the island of Big Island. We are anticipating over 350 keiki to attend this event.

While most people are not aware of some of the situations that over 23,000 children of Hawai'i face, nor does the public realize that children here can be compaired to those living in a 3rd world country. Our children live in such extreme situations, such as tents, cars, substandard structures made of tarps and pallets. These children can go days without a healthy meal over their long winter break from school. Children live daily without the life basics of running water, electric, a bed, proper hygiene options, etc....we face a devistation right here at home. Please help make a difference for these precious children.

During our holiday party children will be able to play games, create their own "make and take" crafts to share or give as gifts, enjoy a nutritious holiday meal and of course visit with Santa. Each child will receive their special gift from Santa.

WE ARE OFFERING A FEW DIFFERENT OPPORTUNTIES FOR THOSE WISHING TO HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!!

Please read carefully to assure you are able to fully commit to the opportunty. Due to limited space at the event, we have to limit per activity volunteer head count. Every space takes one more child off the entry list...infact only ONE Parent gets to enter with their family...

  1. We are looking for groups, or such to host a make and take craft, or game w/prizes for the children. While this is a wonderful opportunity for the community to make a difference in the lives of homeless keiki, we will need the groups to stay within the guidelines due to fire/occupancy and other restrictions to participate at the event. Volunteers will need to provide all the supplies, items, prizes, etc..
A list of suggestions:
  • Prizes for games can include school supplies, hygiene products, healthy snacks (no cookies, candy, etc) stickers, small toys, color books, etc. You will need approx 100 prizes, and they can be in stages, like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. For those providing a game/prizes, you may bring 2 people per game...
  • Make and Take Crafts these should be pretty easy skill level, NON religious crafts only, nothing that takes too long to dry...for example if it needs glued- glue dots work perfect. cookie decorating is also fun, painting things sometimes takes too long, so just keep this in mind. For those providing a craft, you may bring 3 people per craft
2. Volunteers to provide a holiday dinner, side or dessert dish. If you wish to help in the kitchen, please arrive by 12:30 p.m. If you are just dropping off your item, please do so between 12:30-3:00 p.m. Please let me know what you are providing. While we only have a few rules due to the clean up factor, basically we are seeking the following: We will be feeding close to 500 people, (350 keiki and 100 or so adults). We understand you are probably not going to be able to provide 500 servings, so we ask that you provide at least ONE FULL SIZE TRAY.PLEASE HAVE ALL ITEMS PREPARED, COOKED, basically ready to serve...Some things might need to be heated, that is fine, but nothing raw.
  • Main Dish Items: Please provide a FULL SIZE or two of the smaller trays of what ever you choose...a great item is TURKEY, pork adobo, kalua pig, or Ham
  • Side Dish Items: Please provide a FULL SIZE or two smaller trays of whatever you choose...
  • DESSERTS: HERE IS WHERE THE RULES COME IN!!
  • Everything must be invidually prepared, so the best item is COOKIES, muffins without icing, fruit, fruit cups,
  • I am going to put WHAT IS NOT ACCEPTED.
NO Cupcakes with icing or fillings, NO brownies, NO pies, NOTHING MESSY!!!

Our party is set for Dec. 22nd in Hilo. Volunteers will need to arrive by 4PM, and set up their activity by 5PM. Will need to plan to stay until 8:30-9ish p.m. More details and guidelines will be given upon your request.

The event is hosted in Hilo; however, until you are approved to become a volunteer, you will not be giving the location. This is for our keiki privacy and protection.

Mahalo again for your time and concern towards these precious homeless children.

If your group is able to help with a collection of either monetary support, or gifts, please feel free to send us a note about that request as well. We will get you a goal chart and help you start your fundraising efforts.
