We're so excited that you are interested in becoming a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters. It is one of the most fun, rewarding, and life-changing experiences you will ever have, and our staff is here to support you along each and every step of the way. Mentors must be at least 18 years old, have reliable transportation, and able to meet consistently 2-4 times each month with a youth, for one year at a minimum. Many of our mentors and youth have life-long friendships!

Here is the whole process involved in becoming a mentor:
1. Schedule a Call - Schedule a call with one of our staff members by copy and pasting this link (http://www.bbbshawaii.org/volunteer-inquiry-call.html.) We want to learn more about you!
2. Get Interviewed - We want to know all about you and what you like to do for fun so we can make the perfect pair.
3. Get Matched - We'll call you and let you know when we've found your match!
4. Meet Your Youth - Now the fun begins! We'll introduce you to your youth and help you plan your first solo outing together.
Youth and their mentors meet weekly for a few hours, and participate in activities that they both like, such as going to the beach, getting ice cream, or throwing a ball at the park. Mentors pick-up their mentees and are responsible for transportation and other costs they incur. We offset some of the costs by sponsoring at least one event each month. The consistency of one-on-one meetings results in positive measurable outcomes for each youth, and a fun - and life-changing - volunteer experience. Most of our mentors say they get more out of our program than the youth they are mentoring!
