Waimea Valley is Celebrating Invasive Species Awareness week with a work day on Saturday, March 2nd. This will be an event for participants ages 12 and up. We will be learning to identify and remove some of the problematic invasive species that we are trying to clear out of our Valley. This is a great opportunity to not only learn about invasive species and their impacts, but also to make a difference and help us care for this sacred valley and the endangered species that we protect here. An RSVP is required. Work goes from 9am to 3pm After the work is done you will have free entry to go into the valley and explore. *** Please realize that when you sign up, you are committing to the entire time specified above.***
How This Helps Our Community
This project will focus on teaching people to recognize and remove invasive species. This will help our organization by removing invasives that could potentially take over and damage the habitat that we have here. Our goal is to protect the rare and endangered species that live in the valley. the event is also aimed at promoting awareness of the problematic invasive species that we see here in Waimea. We hope that people will take what they learned here and use it to combat the problem of invasive species all over the island.
