Aloha,
Project Hawai'i, Inc., is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers. Our agency is solely supported by public donations and will be hosting a free holiday Christmas party for hundreds of homeless children living in poverty across the island. This party is part of our mission to help these children gain self-esteem and escape their cycle of poverty.
Our party is complete with Santa and Me Photos, special gifts, make and take crafts, games with prizes and of course our special and most anticipated event...making sugar cookies for "Santa". These children do not get to experience the wonders of the holidays like most of our community. They won't have a special dinner, visit relatives, await Santa's arrive with milk and cookies under the tree. These children will be in their tent, or car, or other substandard housing situation without the wonders we all experience.
We are seeking a SMALL GROUP up to 4 at most to host a decorate your own sugar cookie at our party. The cookies can be store bought (or donated), or home baked, up to you. The typical decorations of course is an icing, and a variety of toppings. People have used a wide-variety of candies, (some are probably even Halloween left-overs, which is fine). Like m & m, skittles, gummy bears, etc. You can choose the toppings.
While we will have 350 homeless children attending the party, we only need about 100 cookies to be available. The party is very busy, has lots of activities, so the children won't have time to do everything, and when we run out, that is FINE!!
I am not publishing the party location at this time, but it is in Hilo on East side of the Big Island. Volunteers who wish to participate in this activity will need to arrive before 5PM, 4:30 is super to allow you the time to set up. We can ONLY accept up to 4 people to volunteer at this table. The party will end around 7:30 pm.
Please email for more information and details about this volunteer opportunity.
If you are NOT able to attend the party, but wish to provide the cookies or toppings, that is fine too.
