On Friday March 7th, Join the American Red Cross to learn about new volunteer opportunities in Hilo!
Our goal is to recruit volunteers to work at the State Veterans Home in Hilo, OR, youth ages 13-24 that would like to learn about and/or teach International Humanitarian Law. The veteran's program in Hilo is struggling, but with your help, we'll be able to offer a snack cart, hold holiday events, crafts, physical activities like the drumming exercise you can see in the attached photo, have folks available to run errands/shop, etc. There is also a problem with transportation for veterans, and we have a volunteer role where you can take them to/from appointments etc. that we'd love to fill so we can provide/expand that service.
As far as the youth option, it's great for students looking for internships, service hours, experience in writing or public speaking, and there's an opportunity for them to be invited to Washington DC. Great for those with a passion for current events, law, politics and education. We will be there to do the orientation presentation and then assist folks with the application process and answer questions. We'll have a couple volunteers from the program there as well that can speak about their experience and details on the positions they cover. And of course…there will be pizza!
