Special Olympics Hawaii

Who We Are

Special Olympics Hawaii conducts a year-round program of physical training and competition at local, area and chapter levels. Athletes compete at local and area events prior to advancing to the chapter level competition. Special Olympics Hawaii athletes are offered the opportunity to participate and compete in clinics, camps and competitions in the following sports and events: Aquatics, Athletics, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Fitness, Power Lifting, Soccer, Softball Tennis and Speed Skating.

Special Olympics Hawaii would not exist today without the time, energy, commitment and enthusiasm of people just like you, thousands of individuals who choose to take a little time from busy schedules to make the world a better place.

Around the world, there is a growing hunger for civic engagement and belonging. It's about transforming lives, including your own. It's about a spirit of giving and teamwork. It's about making your community and neighborhood a more welcoming and accepting place. And it’s about creating lifelong friendships and a new way of thinking about others. Those are rewards of immeasurable value.

Volunteering with Special Olympics creates change that carries forth from our Programs and into the world. Whether you're an individual or a member of a school, church, work, civic or other group; whether you can volunteer for just a few hours on a single day as a scorekeeper, or several hours a week, year-round, as a Coach, Assistant Coach or Unified Partner, there are volunteer opportunities for you. Volunteers are the heart of Special Olympics Hawaii and over 6,500 volunteers are needed every year. Come out and experience the joy of sports, friendship and inspiration!

What We Do

The mission of Special Olympics Hawaii is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with mental retardation or a closely related developmental disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
