HCF?s program has three main components - Volunteers are needed in all 3: 1. Adoption/Sanctuary: Sociable stray cats are housed and cared for in a multi-cattery sanctuary, and adopted to responsible homes whenever possible. Volunteers are especially needed at the sanctuary, seven days a week. 2. Education: Several types of programs promote responsible pet ownership, with particular emphasis on the importance of neutering pet cats as well as stray cats in the community. Volunteers teach educational lessons, work with partner organizations to sponsor spay/neuter clinics, and offer educational opportunities at the cat sanctuary. 3. TNRM (Trap Neuter Return Manage): Is an effective non-lethal alternative to euthanasia as the means of population control.
What We Do
The Hawaii Cat Foundation (HCF) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, formed in 1993 and is dedicated to the welfare of Hawaii?s cats. A no-kill sanctuary in Kahalu'u houses cats until they are adopted. Volunteers are needed for many roles, many right on site at the sanctuary. (See our website at hcf@hicat.org). Cats love to be groomed and socialized through petting, holding, and other gentle loving touch. Other volunteers are needed for educational programs, data entry, and for responding to e-mails, telephone inquiries, and grant writing/fundraising. HCF was formed in 1993, and is a 501.C.3 private non-profit organization. HCF is an all volunteer organization, so there are no administration costs or salaries paid. The HCF cat sancturay in Kahaluu was purchased in 2002 with a generous downpayment donation. The 1.2 acres of lush garden house about 200 cats in about 13 catteries. Volunteers provide services in many areas, either onsite at the cat sanctuary, in educational settings, or on computer or telephone from home.
