Who We Are
The Waikiki Aquarium is a leader in bringing to view the great diversity of aquatic life found in Hawaii and tropical Pacific waters. The Aquarium achieves this mission through educational programs, exhibits, special events and research. Thousands of visiting school children, residents, and visitors to Hawaii consistently keep the Aquarium in the top ten visitor attractions in the state.
What We Do
The Waikiki Aquarium's dedicated volunteers, diverse in age, background and experience, help fulfill the mission "to inspire and promote understanding, appreciation and conservation of Pacific marine life." Volunteers outnumber employees 5 to 1 and assist in accomplishing the mission by learning more about Hawaii's marine environment and by sharing how others can help to preserve and protect it. We have many volunteer opportunities to match your interests and skills. The Waikiki Aquarium opened in 1904 and is the second oldest public aquarium in the United States. In 1919 the University of Hawaii assumed administration of the Aquarium. The Waikiki Aquarium continues to be recognized for its cutting edge research in the husbandry of rare marine animals and habitats.
