Who We Are

In 2009, Kako'o'Oiwi entered into a thirty-eight (38) year lease with the Hawai'i Community Development Authority (HCDA) to implement Manuhuahua 'Ai o Hoi, or Re-growing the fruit of Hoi,a community-driven project to restore nearly 400 acres of currently fallow land into a working agricultural landscape. Through this project, Kako'o'Oiwi is creating hands-on cultural, educational, economic and scientific research opportunities for the benefit of the local community. Kako'o'Oiwi is currently working to reinstate lo'i kalo (wetland taro) that was historically prevalent throughout the He'eia wetland.

What We Do

Kako'o'Oiwi is a Hawai'i 501(c)(3) community-based non-profit organization. Its mission is to strengthen the community through the perpetuation of the Hawaiian culture and practice.
