Who We Are

Incorporated in 1976 as The Alcoholic Rehabilitation Services of Hawaii Inc, Hina Mauka is a not-for-profit CARF-accredited substance abuse treatment center with over 40 years of successfully helping people with addictions. We use modern proven techniques, known as evidence-based practices, to help individuals achieve their goals of overcoming dependence on alcohol and other drugs.

Hina Mauka offers treatment for adults at our Kaneohe and Waipahu sites through several levels of care including Residential Treatment (Kaneohe only), Day Treatment, Outpatient Treatment and Aftercare. Hina Mauka's mission is to foster hope and healing for people recovering from alcohol and substance use disorders and related behavioral health challenges.

Hina Mauka's Hiki Ni`o program offers mentoring to adults in treatment at all levels of care, from residential to aftercare.  The mission of the Hiki Ni`o mentoring program is to provide consistent and caring mentors to guide, support and inspire program participants to develop the attitudes and skills that will help them become successful in their recovery, in their personal lives and in the workplace as productive members of their community.

Other innovative programs offered by Hina Mauka include services for homeless men and women at the Institute of Human Services (I.H.S.) homeless shelters at Sumner Street and Ka'aahi Street in Honolulu; Hawaii's only Therapeutic Community program, located at the Women's Community Correctional Center (WCCC); and school-based adolescent outpatient treatment at 20 high schools and middle schools on Oahu and Kauai.

What We Do

At Hina Mauka's Hiki Ni`o mentoring program, we are looking for volunteer mentors from the community who are age 21 or older and are good role models willing to lend additional support to adult clients in treatment at our Kaneohe or Waipahu clinics. Mentors meet one-on-one with program participants primarily to encourage hope and self-confidence and sometimes assist with accessing community resources. Meetings between mentors and program participants take place outside of treatment and occur once per week for 6 months.

Hina Mauka provides training and ongoing support to volunteer mentors. We welcome questions about the program and encourage anyone interested in obtaining more information to call us at 447-5286.
