HCAP - Ha Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program

Who We Are

The Ha Initiative's mission is to provide fun, exciting, and educational experience for kids from 2nd to 8th grade to learn the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM).

By volunteering with the Ha Initiative: A Creative STEM After-School Program, you can make a big impact in your community! Volunteers provide individualized attention to students and assist the teacher in an after-school classroom. Volunteers help with homework, hands on science experiments, and can pitch in when our Exploration Centers compete in the First Lego League robotics competitions every year, October through December.

What We Do

The program is free and gives participants an after-school snack, tutoring, a chance to meet other kids and enjoy exciting, hands-on science projects and computer activities. They can also join a LEGO League robotics team!

Additionally, volunteers serve as an extra pair of helping hands in the classroom, working with all children, and assisting the teacher in a variety of ways including: sign-in and sign-out of participants, snack time, lab set-up, and attending field trips. H? Initiative volunteers are a key component of the program’s success. Our Community Mentors (18 and older) or Jr. Leaders (under 18) inspire the children by being a role model and teaching them that learning is fun!
