Helping Hands Hawaii is in need in regular volunteers who are interested in a warehouse setting. Volunteers will sort out items that are donated at our warehouse to determine if the items are able to be used by our individuals and families. Occasionally, volunteers will also help with donors who are in need of assistance with their items in their vehicles as well.

DUTIES: Greeting donors at our Donor Gate and accepting donations that are dropped off Offering tax receipts and completing Warehouse copies Ensuring tax receipts have correct details (i.e. number of items donated, name, date, etc.) Greeting clients and helping them getting things off the warehouse floor Lifting items that are 20lbs+ Sorting donations & stock shelves/clothing racks Requirements

Expectations
Absence: Minimum of 24-hour notice to allow for schedule/task readjustment for the day.Volunteering: Must commit 4+ hours per shift. To be considered a regular, volunteers must commit to 4 hours a week for two months or longer.Clothing: Casual clothing is acceptable but should be tasteful and family friendly. Wear plain t-shirt, close toed shoes & shorts must be just above or at the knee. NO slippers, sandals, crop tops, leggings, short shorts, jewelry. Helping Hands Hawaii is in need of volunteers who are compassionate, detail oriented, and able to work with computers to assist us in general office work. Volunteer interested in general office assistance will be greeting clients who come by our location or contact programs via phone, organizing files, conducting surveys, shredding, as well as some data entry.

Volunteers will be interviewed for these opportunities, must complete an application, and attend our orientation and trainings.

Our organization understands that not everyone is able to support us monetarily or have the time to volunteer weekly with us at Helping Hands Hawaii, however we are more than happy to have you support us by donating the following items:

Beds – all sizes, especially single beds (not accepting at this time) Household furniture – dining tables, sofas, coffee tables, chairs Small appliances – microwaves, electric kettles, fans Accessories – footwear, handbags, backpacks Linens, towels, mats Hygiene – shampoo, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine products, etc. Brand new infant/child car seats, strollers, carriers and cribs

Based on client need and liability concerns, we are unable to accept:

Used infant/child car seats, strollers, carriers and cribs Sporting equipment – treadmills, weightlifting machines, golf clubs, etc. Hospital/medical equipment – hospital beds, wheelchairs, crutches Custom-built appliances Musical instruments Computers and related equipment, specialized electronics

Tips for donors:

All donations must be in good, working order without visible damage: Upholstered items should not be broken or have excessive rips, stains, pet hair or fading Wooden items should not have excessive watermarks or discoloration, chipped edges, missing hardware or parts, etc. Items should be clean and free of odor Items MUST be pest free (i.e., no bed bugs or termites) Small appliances should be clean and in working condition Donations that are broken, torn, dirty, rusted or in need of repair cannot be accepted Donations are distributed to families in “as is” condition. Because of this, staff may decline a donation if, in their judgement, the item is not in clean, usable condition. Double check your donations for any personal belongings. Once we receive donations, they are often available for clients and may not be in our possession for you to recover your items.
