Volunteer: Distribution Day Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers every Wednesday and Friday, all year-round. Shifts run between 9 am - 12 pm and/or 12 pm - 2 pm.    Volunteer positions include:   - Loading orders: Support our clients by delivering their orders to them outside and helping load the items either into carts, bags, or cars.    - Running orders: As cars pull up to the warehouse for order pickup, we need runners to grab the already-filled orders off our shelves, add in fresh produce (as necessary), and deliver them to the cars.    - Traffic monitoring: Families begin lining up in their cars for food pickup and we need traffic help to coordinate the pickup. We're located in a residential neighborhood and do our best to be mindful of our neighbors on these pickup days. This is a very high need position for us!   - Preloading: Every cart that goes out has what we call a "daily special" containing bread, dairy products, fresh produce, and more! We have a designated preloading station where volunteers are setting up each cart as it cycles through the warehouse with the rotating items from our daily specials.    We are always looking for flexible and energetic people who want to come support our work. We are a fast-paced organization and appreciate a willingness to learn. Our team is kind, passionate, and grateful for the outpouring of love from our community that allows us to continue operating the way we do.    Safety of our volunteers is our highest priority. We ask that you wear close-toed shoes and do whatever energizes you prior to your shift. Eat a hearty meal, hydrate, and ensure that you're well-rested before coming in. We have many moving pieces, large pieces of industrial machinery, and an awesome group of volunteers going in and out of the warehouse. For those working outside, there are cars driving through and it can get exhausting being out in the sun. We happily provide sunscreen, safety vests, refrigerated beverages, and snacks to all of our volunteers.    To learn more, please visit our website https://thepantry.org/ or email volunteer@thepantry.org and we look forward to connecting with you!

Volunteer: Project Visitation Volunteers Needed - Help Keep Siblings Connected

Project Visitation is the opportunity for siblings, separated in different homes with different Resource Caregivers, to connect with one another. Through the support of our dedicated volunteers to make such visits come true, Project Visitation brings happy faces to brothers and sisters alike. Relationships continue to flourish and our children and youth enjoy the companionship of a beloved sibling.

Project Visitation can make a difference!

Project Visitation brings siblings together in a fun and safe environment and gives children the opportunity to create memories they otherwise would not have if they lived in different homes Visits can be as simple as a trip to a park, playground, or beach or organized activity, such as excursions to the zoo, aquarium, and other landmarks around the island These visits maintain healthy sibling relationships by spending quality time with one another The place doesn’t matter—it’s the siblings’ connection that makes the difference!

We are looking for individuals, dedicated to helping make a difference in siblings' lives, to serve as Project Visitation volunteers. Each volunteer is paired with a sibling group, who get together for in-person visits once a month. Visits can be as simple as a trip to the beach or neighborhood park - the place truly doesn't matter - it's the experience that makes everything worth it.

All interested applicants must fill out a packet and undergo both Criminal and CAN checks. For more information, please email PV@familyprogramshawaii.org.

Volunteer: Kids Against Hunger ~ Fundraising Opportunity

This is a wonderful opportunity for our youth to be involved in solving a social issue here in the community. Hunger pains are real and our homeless children feel them every day. We need you to help stop the pains for these precious children.

Donations towards this program will be used to feed the homeless children during their long winter breaks from schools and holiday meals. Our program provides outreach programs on 3 islands year round. One of the most important aspects to this fundraiser is providing hot nutritional meals to homeless children. During the school year children are able to enjoy a daily meal; however, during the long school breaks that stability is gone. Children can go days without a healthy meal and most children will go to bed hungry. Your support can make the difference in these precious lives.
Help keep our homeless children nourished.
Some examples of the cost and what your donation helps to provide.
Daily breakfast is $5.50
Daily Lunch is $7.50
2 Daily Snacks is $3.50
Dinner is $7.50
You make the difference each dollar at a time.

There are many ways to be involved in the solution of ending hunger for our homeless children. When asked, children come up with some really great ideas on their own and can really help them in their own learning process of problem solving.
Here are some examples that have been successful in the past that are lead by the children.
1. Children have cleared out their closet of their unwanted toys. Put them together and sold them to the neighbors and on social media to raise funds to help a homeless child. This teaches the child the value of money, how to negotiate sales, customer service and the fulfillment of being able to make an impact with their own means.
2. Other children have hosted bake sales for their own family, offering to make desserts or other goodies for a gathering or a special dinner.
3. One classroom sold coffee every morning at parent drop off and actually raised $1,500 in one week.
4. A group of teens washed cars for the elderly. Had their family and friends sponsor a donation for the cars washed, donated their earnings to help feed our children.
The possibilities are endless, our youth have wonderful creative ideas and in the end everyone gains something from the experience of feeding homeless children.

We also have a social media challenge. Post our link to Share a Meal and allow your friends and family to sponsor a child for just $7.
This too can be very interactive and creative. Your child can make a short video of why they choose to partner with Project Hawai’i, Inc. and help feed homeless children, and put a challenge of their own for others to do the same.

You can share your impactful campaign to Facebook, Instagram, TickTock or other platforms and make a difference today.

HOW TO GET YOUR CHILD STARTED:

Send your name and email Your child's name Your goal and ideas. We will send you the link to our Share a Meal program to help you get started. If you prefer we can create your own fundraising page to share on social media as well. We also have text to give options and create a flier to hand out.

Mahalo for taking the time to see how your child can help a child go to bed with a full tummy tonight. We need your help because these children count on us!!!

Volunteer: Become a Mentor!

Aloha and welcome!

We're so excited that you are interested in becoming a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters. It is one of the most fun, rewarding, and life-changing experiences you will ever have, and our staff is here to support you along each and every step of the way. Mentors must be at least 18 years old, have reliable transportation, and able to meet consistently 2-4 times each month with a youth, for one year at a minimum. Many of our mentors and youth have life-long friendships!

To learn more about becoming a mentor, the FIRST step is to schedule a volunteer inquiry call with one of our staff members. Please copy and paste this link to schedule your initial call: http://www.bbbshawaii.org/volunteer-inquiry-call.html.

Here is the whole process involved in becoming a mentor:

1. Schedule a Call - Schedule a call with one of our staff members by copy and pasting this link (http://www.bbbshawaii.org/volunteer-inquiry-call.html.) We want to learn more about you!

2. Get Interviewed - We want to know all about you and what you like to do for fun so we can make the perfect pair.

3. Get Matched - We'll call you and let you know when we've found your match!

4. Meet Your Youth - Now the fun begins! We'll introduce you to your youth and help you plan your first solo outing together.

Youth and their mentors meet weekly for a few hours, and participate in activities that they both like, such as going to the beach, getting ice cream, or throwing a ball at the park. Mentors pick-up their mentees and are responsible for transportation and other costs they incur. We offset some of the costs by sponsoring at least one event each month. The consistency of one-on-one meetings results in positive measurable outcomes for each youth, and a fun - and life-changing - volunteer experience. Most of our mentors say they get more out of our program than the youth they are mentoring!

We welcome you to contact us at info@bbbshawaii.org or 808-521-3811 for more information. Or, to scehdule a volunteer inquiry call with one of our staff members, please copy and paste this link :http://www.bbbshawaii.org/volunteer-inquiry-call.html.

Volunteer: Seeking a CPA or Tax Specialist to Lead Business Tax Training

We work with dozens of new and aspiring entrepreneurs who are launching small businesses across Hawai'i. Most of the entrepreneurs we support are running their own food trucks, making their famous family cookie recipe and selling at local farmer's markets, or building the next brand of Hawai'i grown hot sauce. We work with entrepreneurs from the farm to the table and help teach them the 101 of building a viable business.

As tax season rolls around, we want to help ensure our businesses know how to file their business taxes. We're seeking a trainer to do 2 session, each 2 hours training on the "basics" of business taxes to groups of our entrepreneurs. This wouldn't involve any one-on-one tax advising, just a general course so our clients know what questions to ask, what they should be doing, and can proactively plan to file their 2021 taxes.

Times and schedules can be flexible to your needs, and we can accommodate virtual or in-person trainings.

Certified volunteer counselors are essential to the success of the SHIP program. Other roles include information distributor, administration, exhibitor, and presenter.       o A counselor with advanced training can develop plan comparisons for clients based on the client’s resources and situation. A complete plan comparison will provide the client with recommendations on plan options that best addresses their needs.
o A counselor with advanced training can assist a client with a Medicare appeal, usually because a benefit was denied, but other reasons and appeals do exist. SHIP is not responsible for drafting or writing an appeal, but can advise a client on when to file an appeal, what information to include, and where to send the appeal documents.

Each month, HUGS conducts a respite evening for seriously ill children and their siblings so that their parents can have important time for themselves to relieve the daily stresses of caring for their ill child.  It is also a time in which these children can have fun, meet other children in similar circumstances and regain their childhood.

Respite events are held in the evenings at the HUGS Center or in West Oahu locations.  Contact HUGS to find out specific dates and locations.

Volunteer: Coordinator Wanted: Fitness Challenge/Healthy Hearts for Homeless Keiki

  About

Healthy Hearts of Homeless Keiki Campaign- Fitness Challenge.

Project Hawai'i, Inc. is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers to provide homeless children with year round services. Since we are publicly supported, we obviously need to raise funds for particular events and programs that help these children escape their cycle of poverty.

Most homeless children living in poverty have low self-esteem, limited social and life skills and definitely don't have an open opportunity to participate in school based, or extracurricular activities during their youth.

The largest obstacle these children face joining a team or sports group, etc., is due to lack of funds and supportive requirements to play or sign up.

Every year, we choose February as our month to conduct our Healthy Hearts for Homeless Keiki campaign. While this is conducted and organized in February, we do not expect all challenges to happen in February.. year round is fine.

Our goal for this program is to have an active fund that allows us to sponsor the child's needs as they arise. A typical sport can cost well over $100.00 per child. For some this is life-changing and helps the child learn so much more about themselves, values, team work, etc...

We are seeking a coordinator that would like to help coordinate and set up the program with local gyms, fitness groups, centers, etc... such as yoga, zumba, fitboxing, running, walking, stroller races... any activity that requires "fitness building" to keep with our theme of Healthy Hearts!!

Your responsibility would be:

Contact the group/owner/coordinator of the fitness group Help them establish the time frame, and make the commitment to Project Hawai'i, Inc. Be the voice for the homeless children We will provide you with supportive needs (we have a page on our site dedicated to help start), etc. Typically the group will want to meet Project Hawai'i, and have a short introduction of who we are and what we do. I can do that, or of course you can do that... A great way to start is to connect with a local group in your own community, the place you work out at, or participate with... or for those who are really outgoing and ambitious to contact several fitness centers, etc. For more information, please contact us. I will send you the details and link to the website sign up area for the fitness coordinator, etc.

Volunteer: Change a Homeless Teens Life Coordinators Wanted

Aloha,
Project Hawai'i, Inc. is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers. Our agency runs by public donations and our mission is to enhance the lives of homeless children and help them escape their cycle of poverty.

I want to share a little story that was just presented to our volunteers while we were at the pumpkin patch with the homeless children. This is the reality they face in daily life, and when having to be in a public situation away from their "comfort zone" of being around other homeless people.

All the homeless children were standing in line waiting to go on a water ride at the pumpkin patch. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for them, and they all realized that fact. They were so excited and sort of forgot the fact that they are homeless and being left out of the wonders of being a child.

The line was quite long, and as they got closer to the entrance, one of the boys stepped out of line. I was so mad, and told him get back in line, you are doing this, I already paid $8. for your ticket. He stood there and said "NO", he didn't want to go. I told him not to worry what people might say, or how he felt.. no one really cares who is doing what, or what we look like, this is a world that revolves around us being happy and doing something for fun... he still refused to go. I would not let that happen and kept asking what is wrong, and why would he not go.

Finally he said, I have to take off my shoes and my socks and feet are so dirty. I am ashamed of being here and don't want people to know that I am dirty. Plus, I will get wet and these pants are dirty and they stink when they get wet. OMG... this is the reality these children face daily!! They don't participate in activities because of their lack of hygiene capabilities.

So, I took him to the restroom, helped him clean up and put him back in line. That child laughed and had so much fun.. it was truly a life changing experience for him.

With that said, I want to share what these children face in school.

Most teen girls won't go to school once a week every month because they are not prepared for that time of the month. ($30. will solve that issues). Many teens won't participate in p.e. because they don't have proper hygiene or clean underpants and don't want to change, can't shower after and feel so dirty ($13. will solve that problem)

Most boys won't join after school sports due to the fact they don't have even the basics to participate ($$$ will solve that problem)

There are so many drop outs, those who turn to drugs, or other criminal acts due to lack of SIMPLE solutions that a $20 bill can solve. We have the opportunity to make these changes in these precious lives and help them become part of society in a positive light.

Are you ready to take on a challenge to change the life of a homeless teen? Are you ready to help them succeed and escape their cycle of poverty?
WE NEED YOU!!!

This is something that can be done via social media, emails, or put together as a collection at your place of business, school, group, etc. Every penny does make a difference, and for a few dollars YOU CAN BE THE DIFFERENCE these children deserve.

We are collecting gift cards from Walmart or Target to provide to teens and allow them to purchase items they need when they need them. We are giving them the confidence they deserve to take care of their own lives. Building their self-esteem and helping them to learn to manage thier own situations of struggle.

One step further, you can set up an ongoing collection to sponsor a teen to participate in sports, or for their educational needs.

To get started, please email me your name, mailing address, phone number and your goal. For example, to set up a fundraiser on FB, or collection can, or other fundraiser idea.

I will be able to set up a goal chart that allows people to donate on line, or you can have them send their gift cards to our office.

Other facts about our state of homeless crisis:

23,000 children are unsheltered in the state 100% of our #homeless children rely on the FREE lunch program as their only daily source of nutrition Children will go days without a meal during long holiday breaks 100% of homeless children miss at least one day of school per week, and some even more 80% of homeless teens will drop out of school BEFORE high school... starting in the 3rd grade The average age of a homeless person on the islands is 5 YEARS.. all the homeless combined, children suffer the most Project Hawai'i, Inc., works hands on with these children. We are not a feeding program, or a once in awhile giveaway program. We are an ongoing monthly program that provides outreach and forms bonds with the families to help them escape their cycle of poverty. Our homeless families participate in a wide variety of activities we provide, including our summer educational program and teen weeks througout the year. Thank you for your time and concern.

Volunteer: Seeking Committee Chair/Board Members: Openings at Project Hawai'i

Project Hawai'i, Inc. is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers. We are solely supported by public donations. Our mission is to enhance the lives of homeless and poverty stricken keiki. Helping them to escape their cycle of poverty by providing interactive solutions, life necessities and help when needed. We run programs on both the Big Island and O'ahu.

100% of all our donations go back to our programs to help us fulfill our mission.

We are looking for a few dynamic people who would like to share their talents and help Project Hawai'i reach their goals to help stop homelessness among children.

Some of our goals for 2017 are listed below.

We are trying to expand our programs and bring back our after-school reading and tuitoring programs as well as add more after-school options for these precious children. At one time, our agency had 8 centers open 5 days a week, but the economy hit, and we slowly had to close them. Some of our other programs have dimissed as well. We are hoping to make 2017 our come back year and help even more children have a brighter future.

We are also trying to expand our summer educational program and open it up to even more teens on both islands. This is our 10th year anniversary to provide a teen mentoring summer program, and we have added a TEEN WEEK on Big Island. We have also made a committment to make this year and forward to be 100% organic.

So if you are interested in helping us to raise the awareness and create the funds needed to help these children succeed, please consider sharing your time and talents with us.

Here are the following positons we have open:

Fundraising Coordinator: we are looking for a self-starter, outgoing individual that will be able to visit/contact companies and the alike to help fund some of our major programs. Some writing skills are needed (grant writing skills are not required).  Fundraising Committee Chair: we are looking for individuals that are willing to take on a smaller fundraising task that would be geared for one aspect of our program, such as someone helping for a holiday, or summer program, etc. This individual(s) would be required to write letters, make phone calls, follow up with potiential donors, and set up collection kokua cans in various stores/companies, etc. Grant/Smaller local Grant Writer: we are seeking an individual who would like to research small local grants and apply on line for our individual agency needs. This would be all done on the internet. Many companies give awards or small grants from $500-$2,000. We tend to do well with those, just don't have the time to research them all out.  Event Coordinator: we are seeking a self starter, organized individual that will assist with setting up some of the events we will have planned. Helping to secure locations, organize volunteers, write letters of intent, etc. As well we have community members that contact us to do a fundraiser or collection, and need a bit more assistance. Hoping that this individual would also be able to assist with their efforts. Christmas Chair: we are seeking a few individuals that would like to take on an area around their homebase and help to set up collection sites and kokua cans to assure that we are able to meet the needs of the thousands of homeless children we provide services to. Last year we were able to assist almost 1,500 children living in extreme poverty. Christmas truly changes the lives of these precious children and we need help to secure all the donations needed. Volunteers would need to contact local companies to set up collection boxes, kokua cans, etc and BE ABLE to check on said locations a few times before Christmas. Contacing companies, groups, clubs, etc to coordinate sponsorship opportunities. ONE STEP FURTHER?, able to present our agency to new companies or agencies, etc. Public speaking at it's finest. Volunteer Coordinator: we are seeking an individual that would like to help us set up volunteers for various activities, primarily our awareness and collection sites. We are in need of recruiting 10-12 volunteers for monthly events across the island. This individual would need to make contact with local schools, colleges, companies, military, etc. The goal would be to get the company/school/club, etc to committ to one or more of our events. 3 hour shifts during weekends. (can be flexible for groups needs) Social Media Representative: we are seeking an individual that enjoys posting on Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In and other avenures. Our goal is to raise awareness about our program and post some of our activities or fundraisers.  Summer Camp Activity Coordinator: we are seeking an individual on the BIG ISLAND who has the time to contact people in the community to volunteer at our summer camp by providing a 2-4 hour program for our homeless keiki. We call it "Share Your Talent" guests. We need to fill 12 shifts on the Big Island. I usually look through the online announcements, find companies or individuals who already work with children that might want to donate their time...it is not as easy as it seems. So looking for someone who enjoys spending time researching and contacting people. Summer Camp Food Coordinator: we are seeking an individual that would be able to help us with securing food donations, as well as coordinating with others to conduct food drives and or fundraisers to purchase food needed for camp. This individual would be working with groups, individuals and possibily contact companies for donations of food items. As stated we are going 100% organic and that too will be a challenge as some donors might not understand the need to be organic. Another option we strive to reach is to have a company, group, etc to sponsor an entire meal, prepared, or cover the cost of the meal. Also invite local restuarants to provide a meal for our camp.  Back to School Coordinator/Graduation Lu'au: we are seeking an individual that would like to help set up collection sites or work with groups to collect needed supplies for our back to school support program. Needed supplies range from basic supplies, backpacks, shoes, clothing and funds for the school uniforms. Teens also receive gift cards for their own shopping needs Coordinators for our Teen Mentoring Summer Program: we are seeking  self-startera that is outgoing and enjoys to make phone calls, write emails, talk with people to secure the needs of our program.  Contact local companies to provide or sponsor an activity for the teens Contact local resturants to sponsor a lunch or dinner  Help to contact people who would like to conduct a 2-4 hour leadership or mentoring workshop Raise funds for needed supplies, etc

If any of these opportunities feel like they would fit into your life and your goals, please contact us. We are seeking those who will be dedicated to this program and take these volunteer duties seriously. Our homeless keiki count on us, and we count on the community.

Volunteer: Help children strengthen their reading and writing skills

Imagine visiting an urban community with one of the highest rates of adult illiteracy on island. Now imagine entering a small library embedded in that same community whose mission is to help children improve their reading and writing skills AND make learning fun AND teach character building. The staff and volunteers of Hawaii Literacy's Family Libraries at Mayor Wright Homes and Kuhio Park dedicate their time and energy to meet these three goals because we know that when children are encouraged, supported, and shown how to enjoy learning they will become stronger students fill of confidence and curiosity and ultimately change the course of their life for the better.

But we can't do it alone. We need your help.

Hawaii Literacy's Family Libraries are located in two public housing developments in Kalihi. We need help during afterschool hours especially from 2:30-5:30pm to tutor and teach reading and writing skills to children. Each day we service about 20 children ages 5 to 14 with varying literacy needs. We use computers, books, flash cards, songs, theatre arts, and much more to teach basic literacy skills. If you have the time, patience, and ability, please consider joining our team as we make a huge difference in the lives of Hawaii's children. Thank you for your consideration.

There will be two monthly orientation meetings available on site. Please request information about the next orientation to learn more about how you can make a difference in a child's life. Mahalo!!

Volunteer: Marketing/Promoting-Charity Event Volunteer

Aloha,
Project Hawai'i, Inc., is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers and solely supported by public donations. Our agency provides year round services to the homeless children living in extreme poverty situations. Our goal is to provide the self-esteem, life and social skills to help them stop their cycle of poverty and become successful in their lives. With the crisis ever growing, it is so hard to keep up the demanding needs.

One of ways of raising the needed awareness and funds is to host a charity event. While we tried this a few months ago, it seems that I am really great at my volunteer position here at Project Hawai'i, Inc....which is creating life changing programs for our keiki, and I am REALLLY BAD at putting together a successful event to raise the money we need for our programs....

So, if you have the skills to work with the public, get the WORD out and help us with this missing link....advertising? Please consider donating a few hours of your time to help us succeed with our mission.

I won't begin to tell you what is needed, as obviosly I don't know. I will tell you that we need help getting the guests to attend our event.

If you decide to take on this wonderful opportunity, we will give you what you need, full access to our facebook, (well that is all we have), and allow you to add what is needed....

Here is a sample of what we are still seeking for our upcoming event

Prizes ranging from Main Grand Prize, General Prizes and Door Prizes Company or Corporate Sponsors to help pay for the venue, food, etc Silent Auction Items Guests...mostly those who know how to play Texas Hold'em  This is a Halloween Bash, so we are seeking a variety of decorations and hopefully theme foods as well. Local Celebrities to be our BOUNTY players So, if you feel that you can help us with any of the above, or just plan getting the word out, please feel free to contact us for more information about the event and let us know how you would like to help.

Mahalo for your time.

Volunteer: Every Penny Counts Coordinators Wanted-Help Homeless Keiki

Aloha Everyone,
In today's economy is does seem that every penny counts, well it is not different for our homeless keiki programs. Throughout the year we conduct several collections and fundraisers, people can only give their extra penny's. Some apologize saying "that is all I can give" while others wish us good luck and throw in their two pennies.
Well I want to let everyone know that all those penny's really do make a difference, and have collected hundreds of dollars in penny's to help support the needs of our homeless keiki
Project Hawai'i, Inc., is a non-profit organization that runs 100% by volunteers to care for the keiki living in homeless and poverty stricken conditions on both the Big Island and O'ahu. Our goal is to be able to provide them with basic life necessities, nutritious meals and educational programs to help them escape the cycle of poverty within their own lives.
Throughout the year we conduct bi-weekly outreach and deliver supplies and then during the holidays we provide parties, gifts, and other life wonders to help them cope with the stress of being homeless. In the summer we run an award winning teen mentoring program and provide over 200 keiki with all their back to school needs.
These programs are all run 100% by public donations, so every penny really does make a difference.
So, where to do you come in? We are seeking individuals, groups, clubs, classrooms, etc to help us collect penny's to provide the keiki with their monthly basic needs.
This can be conducted in various ways, from having collections, contents, or even just a one day empty your penny's and see what we get day.
The possibilities are endless....unfortunately the donations are not.
So, if you think you would like to put together a collection, we have on line links, as well as other information to get you started.
For example, 100 penny's provides a bottle of shampoo, 50 penny's provides a healthy snack, and it only takes 1,000 penny's to provide a hygiene bag for a family, so you see how they add up...
Requirements: Yes, we have requirements:

Coordinators need to register with us Be assigned a web link and goal chart Be able to get others involved, either at work, school, club, etc. Decide how long you want to run your event, typically 2-3 weeks is great (or it can just be a one day event) Be able to follow through with the project, and be able to deliver the donations to our office, either at one of our collection sites, via mail, or online. #homelesskeiki #homelesschildren #volunteerhawaii #teenvolunteers #helphomelesskeiki
