Volunteer: Coordinator for Dormitory ~ Help Homeless Youth

Aloha,
Project Hawai’i, Inc. is a volunteer staffed nonprofit seeking a coordinator who has amazing communication skills and fundraising abilities.
Our agency is opening a first of it's kind dormitory for homeless young ladies to attend college. Our dormitory residency program is offered free of charge to the youth; therefore, we need to provide the support they will need. Our goal for the dormitory is more than just a place to live for homeless youth to live while attending college, but to build the life and social skills they need to succeed in school and after graduation. Our entire program is fully staffed by volunteers and solely supported by public donations. With this in mind, we are seeking someone who shares our values to helping the homeless population escape their cycle of poverty. The ideal volunteer will be sociable and have the passion to influence change needed for the next generation to prosper. Our agency is very forward thinking, full of dedicated team members who are focused on creating a caring environment for the girls to learn and grow with healthy habits.
While this position is virtual and can be done during your schedule, we are seeking someone who is familiar with the local area to build the relationships for self sustaining support.
Our goal is to have a partnership with local companies that will continue to provide the support needed for the girls. Example, a local company who makes shampoo/soaps, hygiene could make a monthly contributions of their supplies, or a local retailer will allow the girls a set amount of funds or list of clothing for the girls to start school, connect with a computer company to provide laptops, etc.

This position is also perfect to be used as a internship or practicum. We are a registered nonprofit that accepts internships for up to 6 months/ 300 hours.

The dormitory coordinator position will require

Creating and organizing a communication campaign to approach businesses, individuals, groups, and the community for the support needed. Develop and manage social media awareness of needs with our Canva app. Including creating shoutouts for donors to share their support. Inspire the community through relationship development to maintain long term commitment for in-kind donations Create a Amazon Wish List account for ongoing support Create and maintain the performance reports with lists of sponsors and the contact person. Recruit volunteers where needed for fundraising events, auctions, or other options open for our agency to participate in. There are many community events we get invited to for awareness tables, etc. Dormitory Needs for 6 -10 girls:
Laptops Monthly hygiene /Bathroom Support Bedding/Room support (every two years) Meal Support / Sponsored Meals or Funding Transportation Funding Clothing / Gift Cards or Shopping Sponsorship Laundry Supplies / Cleaning Supplies
Workshop/Activities:
We are looking to partner with the community to introduce the young ladies to a variety of wellbeing and life skills training. Our goal is to provide a few workshops a month on our premises. Providing the girls with life and social skills they will need to learn before graduating and entering the real world on their own. We do have a large wellness outdoor center/with an outdoor cook area, perfect for classes, or yoga, arts, etc.
Connecting with individuals who love giving back and would make a commitment to provide their services to our young ladies.

Time commitment for this position.
We anticipate it will take between 45-60 days to coordinate and make the connections needed. Once donors and sponsors are in place, we feel the program will then require once a month checking in and thanking the donors. Once we are established, this would work on auto pilot with the right person who loves to keep the communication relationships open.

TIMELINE: Our dormitory is set to open in August and will be moving the girls in the first week prior to their college start date. We are hoping to have all donations and sponsors on board by June.

Volunteer: Kaha Native Plant Garden

This project is a living example of how individual homeowners can help improve the local environment through the use of native vegetation and xeriscape gardens. The project replaced grass and invasive species along 150 yards of stream bank with native Hawaiian plants which can be used for soil stabilization, biofiltration and water conservation. Visitors can walk the garden pathways to see how plantings might appear in their own backyard. Located within Kawainui Neighborhood Park at 750 Kaha St. (the intersection of Kaha and Kihapai Street, off of Oneawa Street in Kailua)

Volunteers  will be involved in clearing invasive plant species from the gardens using small hand tools and hand pulling weeds as we work to open areas for re-introduction of native plants.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and work clothes that you don't mind getting wet and dirty. Bring a water bottle, snack, sun protection and bug repellant. All tools & gloves will be provided.   Participants under age 16 must have adult supervision.  Participants under the age of 18, attending without their parent or legal guardian must bring the signed waiver. Our community workdays and volunteer events happen rain or shine!  In the rare event that we would need to cancel a workday due to unsafe weather conditions, we will update our Facebook Page with the event status no later than one hour prior the scheduled start time. We offer a variety of regularly scheduled events each month and we can work with groups to arrange a private weekday service trip or educational visit.

Check out our Calendar for monthly opportunities.

Please RSVP to reserve your spot and receive other important information about this workday. RSVP to volunteer@huihawaii.org. RSVPs are required so that we can maintain small group sizes.

The best way to see what events we have coming up and which would be the best fit for you is by visiting the Get Involved page on our website and signing up to receive our monthly newsletter.

Volunteer: Be A Foster Parent!

A foster parent is someone who provides temporary housing and care for an animal sheltered at Oahu SPCA. Our Foster Care program is designed to provide caring homes where animals can receive more individualized attention. When you foster, you open up space at Oahu SPCA, allowing us to take in and save even more animals. If you are interested in fostering a pet, please fill out an application for a cat or a dog and we will reach out to you once your application is approved.

Animals Helped Through Fostering

The Foster Program at Oahu SPCA is critical to our rescue work. It enables us to save more animals and also give pets a warm, loving environment to heal, grow and flourish.

There are many reasons a pet may need a foster home:

They’re Underage. Puppies and kittens are not ready to be adopted until they are at least eight weeks old. They need time for their immune systems to develop, to receive nourishment, medical care and to be healthy enough for sterilization.

They’re Sick/Injured. Foster homes are a great place for sick or injured animals to heal, wheather they’re recovering from a routine procedure or something more complicated like an orthopedic surgery.

They Need Behavior Modification or Socialization. With people and animals coming and going, our shelter can be overwhelming for some pets. They often prefer a home environment or some one-on-one attention. Others come to us abused, neglected or simply lacking the training or socialization they need to find the right home.

What We Provide

Pet food or milk replacer, food bowls or bottles & nipples, crates, puppy pads, medical care & support.

What You Provide to Your Foster Pet

A safe haven. Love, attention, care and the ability to follow directions from staff and the capability to bring the foster pet in for regular checkups.

Fostering Requirements

In order to foster an Oahu SPCA animal you must:

Be 21 years old or older Be able to isolate the Oahu SPCA foster animals from your own pets Have all resident pets in your home spayed or neutered Have reliable transportation to our shelter for pick-up, drop-off, check-ups and in case of emergency

Volunteer: Animal Enrichment creator/builder

All of the animals enjoy having new and different things to do each day. We are seeking dedicated animal enrichment program volunteers to help provide stimulating, fun and safe activities for the 3RR residents. Some will require out of the box thinking. Perhaps sending a volunteer hunting at garage sales and recycle stores for items that can be repurposed into safe animal toys. This is a creative and fun volunteer activity that can easily be taken over by a team of friends who want to make a difference in the animals lives.

Creative construction of hidey holes, houses and tunnels as well as fun substrates to roll in and smell are also welcome.

There is a great deal of written information on zoo keeper journals etc of ideas others have come up with that can be used or modified for our residents. Building Feeding boxes and animal treat puzzles anyone?

A team could create many items that could be rotated out of a toy chest by the daily Keepers to provide new fun activities. The Enrichment team would not need to be at the sanctuary frequently unless they wanted to be.

Please Email Ann to discuss

Volunteer: Adopt an animals area - green thumbed gardeners in Kona wanted!

So many animals live in a wide variety of habitats and each of these areas needs regular loving care. Pick one or several and take over the care that that specific zone requires to be safe and look inviting. Most of this is trimming back and raking up, think zen garden for an animal. These can be tasks done twice a month or more frequently depending on the area selected. Email Ann to discuss.

Tools provided, come with a friend or two and have fun.

Volunteer: Wildlife Animal Keepers, KONA, Hawaii, Volunteers for exotic animal care.

Kona Animal Sanctuary: Assist with wildlife rehab and exotic animal care. Keepers can come as often as five times a week or as little as twice a week in the morning or afternoon rounds. Morning feeding rounds begin at 8:00 am and end around 11 am. Afternoon rounds begin at 3:30 pm and last until around 5:30. Rain or shine 365 days a week!

Three Ring Ranch loves our volunteers! Have you ever wanted to work with exotic animals? Care for native & endangered species in a sanctuary setting? This may be just the place for you. Like all kinds of critters?- bison, zebra, flamingos, ostrich, chinchillas, owls, monkeys and the list goes on. This is one of the most rewarding volunteer positions ever.  You get to know the critters and they you. You work with a dedicated team of Keepers who treat you like family.

We are a very tiny facility (five acres) and all our staff are volunteer. I (Executive Director) am here full time and have a group of dedicated volunteers come daily (some several times a week) as keepers. Keepers are people who are trained to feed and care for the animals. There are 0 paid positions and we do not have housing.

Volunteers come up for several months to learn each of the critters before they are able to feed alone and become a Keeper as there are so many different species and it takes quite a while to become skilled at safely caring for them all. Some volunteers chose not to become Keepers but to come up less often and come for project days on an animals enclosure or to help with the day to day handyman type of jobs that always need doing. Our rounds begin at 8:00 am sharp and last 3+ hours. The afternoon rounds begin at 4 pm and last about 1.5 hours. You must be physically fit to be a keeper, yup this is not for anyone with major limitations.

The animal feed comes in 50lb bags which you do need to be able to move alone. Most of the time there is someone around who is able to lift and haul but you may get asked to do it with another keeper. Yes you get dirty! You are never asked to do something you are uncomfortable with and never asked to do anything unsafe. We expect our volunteers to be careful and safe for other humans and the critters.

This is a learning experience and you have to focus and pay attention. At first there is a huge amount of information to process but over time it all comes around. We know it feels like your brain will explode and we don't want that to happen so we take it slow. Everyone learns at their own pace, you do need a minimum of 3 days a week to train. Three-four x a week is better while training. We have to know you will be staying in Kona for 90 days or more to devote the time to training you. If you will be in town for a shorter period we welcome you as an "irregular". Please see other opportunities posted for areas we can use short time help.

You need to live in or near Kona to be a volunteer, it just does not work to drive over from Hilo or Kau. Some volunteers come for only a few months or move here to gain the experience while working elsewhere so they can get into school. Volunteers are at least 17 years old for liability reasons. We do not have residential lodging for volunteers other than those in our international,  pre-vet or vet summer programs. See the education pages of our web site for more details on those programs. https://threeringranch.org

Many volunteers are working at regular jobs and come volunteer during spare time just to enjoy the animals or to get this type of work experience on a resume for a later date. For some it is just a chance to spend a few hours on a regular basis with animals in a place where their health and wellbeing come first. Couples are great volunteer teams! We do love our regular staff who are retired and have that extra time on their hands.

You can learn more about us at  http://www.threeringranch.org

If you live in Kona, have a few days a week to volunteer & want to try or you think that this new residential position sounds like a great opportunity then give me a call at 331-8778 after 6 pm and we can set up a time for a visit. You may also reply to this email.

All volunteers have signed the volunteer waiver and have proof of insurance prior to orientation. All volunteers are covered at the Sanctuary by a VIS Volunteer Insurance Service policy through the CIMA Company. This policy provides extra accident, liability and auto insurance to our volunteers.

Volunteer: Distribution Day Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers every Wednesday and Friday, all year-round. Shifts run between 9 am - 12 pm and/or 12 pm - 2 pm.    Volunteer positions include:   - Loading orders: Support our clients by delivering their orders to them outside and helping load the items either into carts, bags, or cars.    - Running orders: As cars pull up to the warehouse for order pickup, we need runners to grab the already-filled orders off our shelves, add in fresh produce (as necessary), and deliver them to the cars.    - Traffic monitoring: Families begin lining up in their cars for food pickup and we need traffic help to coordinate the pickup. We're located in a residential neighborhood and do our best to be mindful of our neighbors on these pickup days. This is a very high need position for us!   - Preloading: Every cart that goes out has what we call a "daily special" containing bread, dairy products, fresh produce, and more! We have a designated preloading station where volunteers are setting up each cart as it cycles through the warehouse with the rotating items from our daily specials.    We are always looking for flexible and energetic people who want to come support our work. We are a fast-paced organization and appreciate a willingness to learn. Our team is kind, passionate, and grateful for the outpouring of love from our community that allows us to continue operating the way we do.    Safety of our volunteers is our highest priority. We ask that you wear close-toed shoes and do whatever energizes you prior to your shift. Eat a hearty meal, hydrate, and ensure that you're well-rested before coming in. We have many moving pieces, large pieces of industrial machinery, and an awesome group of volunteers going in and out of the warehouse. For those working outside, there are cars driving through and it can get exhausting being out in the sun. We happily provide sunscreen, safety vests, refrigerated beverages, and snacks to all of our volunteers.    To learn more, please visit our website https://thepantry.org/ or email volunteer@thepantry.org and we look forward to connecting with you!

Volunteer: Project Visitation Volunteers Needed - Help Keep Siblings Connected

Project Visitation is the opportunity for siblings, separated in different homes with different Resource Caregivers, to connect with one another. Through the support of our dedicated volunteers to make such visits come true, Project Visitation brings happy faces to brothers and sisters alike. Project Visitation can make a difference!

Project Visitation brings siblings together in a fun and safe environment and gives children the opportunity to create memories they otherwise would not have if they lived in different homes Visits can be as simple as a trip to a park, playground, or beach or organized activity, such as excursions to the zoo, aquarium, and other landmarks around the island These visits maintain healthy sibling relationships by spending quality time with one another The place doesn’t matter—it’s the siblings’ connection that makes the difference!

We are looking for individuals, dedicated to helping make a difference in siblings' lives, to serve as Project Visitation volunteers. Each volunteer is paired with a sibling group, who get together for in-person visits once a month. Volunteer: Kids Against Hunger ~ Fundraising Opportunity

This is a wonderful opportunity for our youth to be involved in solving a social issue here in the community. Hunger pains are real and our homeless children feel them every day. We need you to help stop the pains for these precious children.

Donations towards this program will be used to feed the homeless children during their long winter breaks from schools and holiday meals. Our program provides outreach programs on 3 islands year round. One of the most important aspects to this fundraiser is providing hot nutritional meals to homeless children. During the school year children are able to enjoy a daily meal; however, during the long school breaks that stability is gone. Children can go days without a healthy meal and most children will go to bed hungry. Your support can make the difference in these precious lives.
Help keep our homeless children nourished.
Some examples of the cost and what your donation helps to provide.
Daily breakfast is $5.50
Daily Lunch is $7.50
2 Daily Snacks is $3.50
Dinner is $7.50
You make the difference each dollar at a time.

There are many ways to be involved in the solution of ending hunger for our homeless children. When asked, children come up with some really great ideas on their own and can really help them in their own learning process of problem solving.
Here are some examples that have been successful in the past that are lead by the children.
1. Children have cleared out their closet of their unwanted toys. Put them together and sold them to the neighbors and on social media to raise funds to help a homeless child. This teaches the child the value of money, how to negotiate sales, customer service and the fulfillment of being able to make an impact with their own means.
2. Other children have hosted bake sales for their own family, offering to make desserts or other goodies for a gathering or a special dinner.
3. One classroom sold coffee every morning at parent drop off and actually raised $1,500 in one week.
4. A group of teens washed cars for the elderly. Had their family and friends sponsor a donation for the cars washed, donated their earnings to help feed our children.
The possibilities are endless, our youth have wonderful creative ideas and in the end everyone gains something from the experience of feeding homeless children.

We also have a social media challenge. Post our link to Share a Meal and allow your friends and family to sponsor a child for just $7.
This too can be very interactive and creative. Your child can make a short video of why they choose to partner with Project Hawai’i, Inc. and help feed homeless children, and put a challenge of their own for others to do the same.

You can share your impactful campaign to Facebook, Instagram, TickTock or other platforms and make a difference today.

HOW TO GET YOUR CHILD STARTED:

Send your name and email Your child's name Your goal and ideas. We will send you the link to our Share a Meal program to help you get started. If you prefer we can create your own fundraising page to share on social media as well. We also have text to give options and create a flier to hand out.

Mahalo for taking the time to see how your child can help a child go to bed with a full tummy tonight. We need your help because these children count on us!!!

Volunteer: Become a Mentor!

Aloha and welcome!

We're so excited that you are interested in becoming a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters. It is one of the most fun, rewarding, and life-changing experiences you will ever have, and our staff is here to support you along each and every step of the way. Mentors must be at least 18 years old, have reliable transportation, and able to meet consistently 2-4 times each month with a youth, for one year at a minimum. Many of our mentors and youth have life-long friendships!

To learn more about becoming a mentor, the FIRST step is to schedule a volunteer inquiry call with one of our staff members. Please copy and paste this link to schedule your initial call: http://www.bbbshawaii.org/volunteer-inquiry-call.html.

Here is the whole process involved in becoming a mentor:

1. Schedule a Call - Schedule a call with one of our staff members by copy and pasting this link (http://www.bbbshawaii.org/volunteer-inquiry-call.html.) We want to learn more about you!

2. Get Interviewed - We want to know all about you and what you like to do for fun so we can make the perfect pair.

3. Get Matched - We'll call you and let you know when we've found your match!

4. Meet Your Youth - Now the fun begins! We'll introduce you to your youth and help you plan your first solo outing together.

Youth and their mentors meet weekly for a few hours, and participate in activities that they both like, such as going to the beach, getting ice cream, or throwing a ball at the park. Mentors pick-up their mentees and are responsible for transportation and other costs they incur. We offset some of the costs by sponsoring at least one event each month. The consistency of one-on-one meetings results in positive measurable outcomes for each youth, and a fun - and life-changing - volunteer experience. Most of our mentors say they get more out of our program than the youth they are mentoring!

We welcome you to contact us at info@bbbshawaii.org or 808-521-3811 for more information. Or, to scehdule a volunteer inquiry call with one of our staff members, please copy and paste this link :http://www.bbbshawaii.org/volunteer-inquiry-call.html.

Volunteer: Seeking a CPA or Tax Specialist to Lead Business Tax Training

We work with dozens of new and aspiring entrepreneurs who are launching small businesses across Hawai'i. Most of the entrepreneurs we support are running their own food trucks, making their famous family cookie recipe and selling at local farmer's markets, or building the next brand of Hawai'i grown hot sauce. We work with entrepreneurs from the farm to the table and help teach them the 101 of building a viable business.

As tax season rolls around, we want to help ensure our businesses know how to file their business taxes. We're seeking a trainer to do 2 session, each 2 hours training on the "basics" of business taxes to groups of our entrepreneurs. This wouldn't involve any one-on-one tax advising, just a general course so our clients know what questions to ask, what they should be doing, and can proactively plan to file their 2021 taxes.

Times and schedules can be flexible to your needs, and we can accommodate virtual or in-person trainings.

As they launch their businesses and online presence, they need high quality photos to showcase their work, tell their story, and support their business growth.

We need volunteers to come to the PGC facilities or farms and do 3 hours worth of photo shoots, followed by 2 hours of editing (estimated) to help capture these photos. Proper crediting can be arranged with our clients!

Volunteer: Iolani Palace Needs Koa Wood!

Friends of Iolani Palace is in need of koa wood to create stanchions (posts for rope barriers).

These stanchions are necessary to guide visitors safely through the palace, protect the important cultural resources of the Hawaiian Monarchy, and organize events. There are two types of stanchions that we need to create more of: a regular stanchion and a stanchion that holds signs

Stanchion-with-sign base: 2" x 12" x 12"
