Description

Statewide Waterbird Survey

Details:

Waimea Valley is participating in the bi-annual hawaii state Waterbird Survey. The purpose of this survey is to track the bird populations and use that information for scientific studies and to protect our native species. We are welcoming up to 4 volunteers to help us spot and track the birds.

You do not need to have experience, but you do need to be able to handle uneven terrain and a fair amount of standing and walking around. We will help with bird identification we just need your assistance with spotting them. If you have binoculars we would appreciate that you bring them along. We also suggest long sleeves, long pants, sunscreen, hats, water bottles and insect repellent, closed toed shoes and masks are required.

**RSVP is required to attend**

Contact Melani, the Volunteer Coordinator at: Volunteers@WaimeaValley.net

After you are done volunteering, we welcome you to explore the valley to learn more about this beautiful place and even take a swim at the waterfall if it is open that day. The volunteering earns you a free admission into Waimea for the day that you work with us.

How This Helps

This will help us to track and identify the birds living on the premises and this information can be used for scientific research and informed protection of these birds.
