What to expect
2 hours of hiking round trip. The hike is moderate along uneven terrain with some short, narrow spans along trail. We get all kinds of weather on Mānana trail; please make sure to have sun protection as well as a rain jacket or poncho. Small hand tools and gloves will be provided for all work. Must wear covered shoes for this workday; No Shoes, No Work.
November 25th Workday Plan (tentative)
9:00 - 9:30a Meet in cul-de-sac at trailhead, walk to watertank 10 min up trail, Introductions
and safety briefing, pass out tools, protocol then start hike
9:30 - 11:00 Hike with stops along the way and arrive at worksite
11:00 - 12:00 Safety and outplanting briefing, work in site then clean up
12:00 - 12:30 Lunch
12:30 - 1:30 Hike up to native forest, Wahi Pana o ʻEwa talk
1:30 Hike back to water tank, Mahalos and Pau!
Pack
Water (about 2 liters), lunch, snacks, sunprotection, rain jacket, and medications needed
*All tools and gloves for work will be provided by KMWP. We also carry first aid kits in case of emergency.
Please note: Many plants are flowering; please let us know of any allergies or medical conditions before the hike. KMWP staff is certified in Wilderness First Aid and carries cell phones and 1st aid kits in case of emergency. Also, there are no bathrooms; participants will need to trek in the bushes.
