What We Do
The mission of Women Helping Women is to end domestic violence through advocacy, education, and prevention; and to offer safety support and empowerment to women and children, victims of domestic violence. Women Helping Women was incorporated as a non-profit agency on February 15, 1977. The original focus was sexual assault and rape crisis counseling. Within a short time, it became apparent that battered women and their children in Maui County desperately needed services too. The Hale Lokomaika`i shelter opened in 1981 and has been in continuous operation since that time.
