Hawaii Autism Foundation

Who We Are

The Hawaii Autism Foundation (HAF) educates and helps Hawaii families find and fund treatments for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and develop resources that will assure our children have the tools and transitional support they need to reach their full potential and thrive as adults.

  • Hawaii Autism Foundation funds programs for people diagnosed with autism and their Ohana here in our lovely islands.
  • HAF proactively sparks collaborative program development and accepts requests from non-profits looking to increase their effectiveness for the autism community.
  • We are dedicated to working with current non-profits and service providers to help increase their capacity to address underserved needs.
  • HAF does not independently run programs. We do not replicate or compete with social service providers; we partner with and strengthen them.

What We Do

The Hawaii Autism Foundation was started by filmmakers Don and Julianne King who created the movie Beautiful Son, a personal story of their family’s journey to find help and healing for their son Beau who at age three was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Through this experience, they determined a need to help families in Hawaii access treatments for children with autism. With the help of a group of local parents who shared this vision, they established Hawaii Autism Foundation as a non-profit, 501c(3). With autism affecting 1 in 68 children, finding solutions is an urgent priority. Children in Hawaii have a particularly difficult time accessing treatments due to geographic isolation and costs.
